2 Car Cortex
At the bottom of my mums garden is a 2 car garage, which my dad built in 1978
When i was a kid i used to spend a lot of time down there watching my dad building a car,
and in the subsequent years working on it, and modifiying it.
Unfortunately i didnt manage to adsorb much of his engineering or mechanical knowledge.
Instead i spent my time drawing racing cars.
36 years later and the garage is still there , The car is gone, now its just a store room.
Ive been back there drawing and painting. Now im the age my dad was when he was building his car. My boy is outside, making mud pies, the same age i was when the garage was built.
There are so many ideas and memories wrapped up in there. It draws me back to a time when i would just draw for fun , just to play and imagine what might be in the future. Its a time machine made of breezeblocks with a felt roof.
is an artist, illustrator, and animation director who lives and creates in London. Barras grew up in Birmingham and moved to Bristol to study graphic design. He became one of a new crop of young artists working in Bristol’s renowned street-art scene. He was a founding member of the Scrawl collective, alongside Steff Plaetz and Mr. Jago, thanks to his representations of fluid movement, unique narrative-driven composition, and line work. Scrawl published a seminal book in 1999 to document the new movement.
As such, Barras traveled extensively, live-painting and exhibiting pieces throughout Europe, the U.S., and Asia.
Some of his works were shown at the W / K group show curated by SheOne 2016 at Fousion Gallery.
