500 Years of Protestant Reformation

17 October 2017 - 14 January 2018

| €4

The protagonism of the languages considered vulgar as opposed to the classical ones (Latin and Greek), together with the emergence of the printing press, led to the precepts of Martin Luther to spread through Europe at a speed until then unusual. The writings printed in the languages of each territory contributed not only to increasing levels of literacy but also to the modernization of European languages. The approach of religious content to the population also includes music. Protestant composers such as Bach or Haendel composed music for worship that parishioners could also understand and sing in their own language. Books, photographs, audiovisuals and objects of worship from different eras allow us to cover a good part of the history of the last 500 years of great changes and contributions to European culture. Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Knox, Jane Austen, James Watt, Abraham Lincoln, Madame de Staël, Samuel Morse … are just some of the characters who meet at the exhibition.
