COMISART. “H(a)unting images: anathomy of a shot”

5 October 2017 - 5 January 2018

| €4

Throughout the development of the photographic medium, the relationship between the camera and a firearm has expanded beyond the purely technological dimension of the device, and has turned the dark and fascinating power of the deadly stare of photography into a tops in art to this day. Taking the notion of photographic rifle by Étienne Jules Marey as a starting point, this exhibition project investigates the parallelism between camera and shot to analyze the forms of capture and apprehension of the image in the contemporary artistic practices. The sample focuses on the triple axis that constructs the exercise of the gaze as a predatory strategy: the presence of an observation and capture device, the discursive implications of the shot, and the distribution and consumption of these images. The exhibition brings together a set of heterogeneous works – from the most traditional media such as painting, photography and documentary recording to sound installations, video art or performance – by artists such as Dara Birnbaum, Bleda and Rosa, Harun Farocki, Kristin Oppenheim , Gabriel Orozco, Javier Peñafiel, Sophie Ristelhueber, Simeón Saiz Ruiz and Jeff Wall, among others.
