Translation in French means transfer.
Diane Guyot (Marseille, 1980) uses the double meaning of this word in French and English to stage the problems she detects during the workshops she has been conducting with immigrants coming from the recently dismantled Calais’ camp, also known as the Calais Jungle; the door to England coming from France and the expected move to a supposed better life.
The artist plays with the meaning and sound of words. Through phrases taken out of context and transferred to surfaces that emulate the movement of people and goods, the artist stages different problems and contradictions.
The work of Diane Guyot revolves around language and how this is given out. The artist uses posters, t-shirts, flags to communicate provocative messages, often ironic, to speak about power relations and question them.
*Coinciding with the exhibition I love U jungle, the artist Diane Guyot will present and intervention and an activity at Ocaña Barcelona in Plaça Reial on Saturday 30/09 from 7.30pm.+info
