The MNAC – Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya is known for its collection of Romanesque art, but since 2014 also has an excellent selection of modern art. Its temporary exhibitions present Catalan, Spanish and international painting, photography, graphic arts and applied arts and in recent years give special prominence to female artists.
The exhibition will cover the entire Ismael Smith's trajectory (Barcelona, 1886-White Plains, New York, 1972) and will reunite various works from the diverse disciplines that this artist practiced: sculpture, drawing, illustration, posters, graphic design, interior design, ceramics, jewelry design, engravings, book-plates and even painting, a hidden facet of the artist. Francesc Torres, Catalan multifaceted artist, wants to transform a part of the museum into an entropic box highlighting its preservation function. By favoring works mostly from the 19th and 20th centuries selected from the museum's collection, Torres explores the collision between history and culture while reflecting on the nature of museums.
