Fashion Drive

20 April - 15 July

| CHF23

Fashion drive? Fashion is both drive and dilemma at the same time, but above all an indicator of the change in its time. This exhibition bends over 500 years of fashion history in the mirror of art: How did artists react to extreme phenomena such as slitmode, shame caps, crinolines or tuxedos? Georg Simmel describes it in “philosophy of fashion” as follows: “Life according to fashion is a mixture of destroying and building.” Fashion is both an economic factor and a seismograph of social sensitivities, an expression of longing and an instrument for inclusion and exclusion mechanisms , The exhibition focusing on the late 18th to early 20th century and foothills to the Renaissance and the present is interested in the manifestations of fashion at that tipping moment where it is extreme, shrill, loud, camouflaged and frowned upon. In today’s era of globalization and homogenization through “Fast Fashion”, the exhibition aims at a critical and sensual view of clothes in art in a Tour d’Horizon, the problematic as well as the subversive moments of fashion history in the techniques of painting, drawing , Plastic, installation, photography and film. With 50 artists, including Joseph Beuys, Giovanni Boldini, Leigh Bowery, Daniele Buetti, Salvador Dalí, Honoré Daumier, Albrecht Dürer, Esther Eppstein, Sylvie Fleury, Emilie Flöge and Gustav Klimt, Natalia Goncharova, K8 Hardy, Herlinde Koelbl, Peter Lindbergh, Manon, Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood, May-Thu Perret, Tula Roy and Christoph Wirsing, Wolfgang Tillmans, Félix Vallotton and Andy Warhol.
