In times of the Netflix boom, where every aspect of modern everyday life is treated in television sequences, and any unusual environment is illuminated in the success form of the series, where cookshows, time analyzes and plays are available as a series, the serial seems almost omnipresent and blessed , Artists have also created extensive sequences, cycles and series with series, repetitions and variations at all times.
The ETH Zurich Collection of Prints and Drawings has a large number of works, consisting of extensive collections. If a lot of series are to be shown in an exhibition, the question of the relevant selection is quickly asked. In this exhibition the Zurich artist duo huber.huber (Markus and Reto Huber, both * 1975) will accept this delicate task. Within the framework of the 150th anniversary of the ETH Zurich Graphic Collection, the two artists will be able to choose from one of their serial works and four important series from the ETH Zurich collection: by Albrecht Dürer, Francisco Goya , Fischli & Weiss as well as Claudia and Julia Müller. Thus, for the time being, the artists assume the responsibility for the inclusion and exclusion and ensure a work- or artist-fair view of the widely spread art form of the series. A cinematic projection of the complete series is placed alongside the selected single pages, which is set by the composer Michael Bucher (* 1975). At the same time, the ETH Zurich graphic collection invites other artists in a two-week cycle to expand the concept of the serial with additional interpretations. Livio Baumgartner, Franziska Furter, Patrick Graf and Yves Netzhammer were selected as “features”. They all show examples of large-scale, far-reaching groups of works from their work.
