Performance von Ruth Beale (UK), with Søren Berner (DK)
Curated by Søren Berner (DK)
Contemplating property and possession, the meaning of public ownership, and the concept of commons, «Who Owns It? Can I Hold It?» combines text, audio and spontaneous movement. Using handheld objects hewn from a single lump of porcelain, the performance co-opts the movements of the audience as a means of collective healing and meditation.
Coming from mid-Brexit Britain, where the population is divided over political questions large and small, Ruth Beale considers the evocative relationships between culture, governance, social discourse and representation. A form of socialized questioning, her practice includes performance, writing, collecting, drawing and socially engaged processes.
