The Bildhalle is looking forward to announcing the first single exhibition since the death of the most famous and revered Swiss photographer in close cooperation with the Burri family for the 2017/18 season, thus commemorating this «humanist with camera».
René Burri created icons of the photography history of the 20th century and took us as a traveling MAGNUM photographer with his haunting picture reports in all corners of the world. His photographic works were always interested, committed, complex and emphatic. He did not just want to document the world, he also wanted to change it with his pictures. The exhibition in the picture gallery will show an impressive selection of his signed black-and-white and color prints, which elaborate both the design and the dynamic in his pictorial language and, at the same time, still provides some surprises.
“There are probably two types of travelers. Some people always go home in foreign countries. Among these are many writers. The others must always be at home wherever they are – these are the eternal migrants, and with them the reporters, and very often the photographers. Omnia sua secum portans: They carry everything they need. I would not be surprised if there was the word burri in any Hopi dialect, and it would mean traveling. ”
