The Museum Rietberg in Zurich has its location in the beautiful park Rietberg and consists of three villas. In this romantic backdrop, art from Asia, Africa, America and Oceania is shown and stands for the only art museum for foreign-European cultures in Switzerland. The museum has a long and multifaceted history and is animated with numerous artists, intellectuals and scientists.
This spectacular exhibition shows 300 statues and ritual objects, sarcophagi and idols from sixteen centuries retrieved from the depths of the Mediterranean off the Egyptian coast. The exhibits originate from the legendary cities of Thonis-Heracleion and Canopus, which became submerged in the eighth century AD. They provide answers to many age-old questions. Tanabata, the "Starfestival", is celebrated in Japan on July 7th. The festival has its origin in an old love story, in which a pair of lovers is separated by the Milchstrasse.
